STEP 1. Start this first step by drawing out the shapes and guidelines to form a frame for your bug. Start with a circle for the head and add facial guidelines. You will then draw out the odd shapes that make up the praying mantis's body. Once that is done you will add the limb guidelines for the four hind legs and the two front arms. STEP 2. You will now draw out the shapes of the oval looking eyes and then start drawing out the shapes of the body starting with the front arms as seen here. Once that is done you can draw a pattern line to separate the front of the bug from the back. Make out the shaping of the rest of the legs and then add the line to define the back end of the praying mantis. STEP 3. Okay you have now made it to step three and what you will do now is detail the face by adding curved lines on the forehead and between the eyes. Once that is done you will detail the nose of the bug and then finish off the hook like shape of the front arms and back legs. You will then detail above the front shoulder and then add the striped lines along the belly. STEP 4. Well this is your last drawing step and what you will do now is add the remaining details to the praying mantis. Start with the antennas and then detail or define the out some more as shown to you here. Draw out the other front arm and then finish off the shape of the legs. You will add some leaf detail to the back of wings. Erase all the guidelines and shapes that you drew in step one to clean up your art. STEP 5. Once you are finished your new bug should come out looking like the one I drew here. All you have to do now is color him/her in either green or brown.
